My Journey Learning Dog Coat Types, Weights, and Grooming Costs

My Journey Learning Dog Coat Types, Weights, and Grooming Costs

I must admit, one of the biggest challenges I experienced while preparing to open my mobile dog grooming business was figuring out the right grooming costs for different dog coat types and weights.

I spent many long hours working on my pricing. I researched and compared different mobile dog grooming businesses and the prices they publicly share on their websites. Some businesses do not post their prices publicly, and that is their decision. For the ones that do, it helped me understand how other mobile groomers structure their pricing and what I could learn from them.

At the same time, I was studying the four main coat categories I use for my business: Short-Hair, Long-Hair, Double-Coated, and Curly-Hair breeds.

I worked hard to learn which dog breeds belong in each category. I also learned how important a dog’s weight and coat type are when determining the amount of grooming work required.

I especially enjoy working with Doodles, which are some of my favorite Curly-Hair dogs. Golden Retrievers are also one of my favorite Double-Coated breeds.

There was a lot for me to learn. I needed to understand different breeds, coat types, weight ranges, grooming needs, and how all of those factors should work together with my pricing.

I stayed very focused on studying and learning. I spent long hours, day after day, researching and improving my knowledge. I kept making changes whenever I found something that could be improved.

Pricing was one of the hardest parts. I adjusted my prices many times because I wanted them to be fair to my customers while also being fair to the amount of time and work required as a mobile dog groomer.

After weeks of studying, comparing, calculating, and making adjustments, I finally reached the pricing balance I was looking for. I now feel confident that my four coat-type pricing charts and weight ranges have reached the maximum 10/10 overall balance I wanted for my business.

I am very glad I made it through those long weeks.

I also want to thank ChatGPT Pro by OpenAI for helping me throughout this process by providing information, explanations, comparisons, and guidance. I spent a lot of time reading and learning from the information, almost like studying a book or set of guidelines. It helped me better understand how everything works while I made my own decisions for my business.

Most importantly, this journey taught me that learning does not stop when a business opens. I will continue studying, gaining experience, and improving my knowledge as a professional dog groomer.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey.

I look forward to meeting you and working with dogs of many different breeds, coat types, and sizes at Marco’s Paws Mobile Grooming.

More learning. More experience. More paws. 🐾
